Police Chase Ends in Serious Injuries

On Saturday night, November 26, there was a police chase ending serious injuries.

According to Platte County Sheriff’s office, a deputy tried to pull a vehicle over on Interstate 29 near Tiffany Springs Parkway due to traffic violations. In addition he learned that the vehicle’s license plate was registered to a different vehicle.

However, when the deputy tried to stop the driver, he fled and the deputy gave chase, but he ended the chase north of 64th Street. The vehicle kept going at speed on 64th Street, even though the chase was over and hit another vehicle on the same Street at the Interstate 29.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Department went on to say that the suspect sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. In addition according to witnesses there were two passengers in the suspect vehicle who fled on foot following the crash and they are currently being sought.

Single Vehicle Accident in North Jefferson City Sends Two to Hospital

On Thursday afternoon, August 25, two Fulton residents were injured in a single vehicle accident in north Jefferson City.

According to Jefferson City Police the accident happened at 4 p.m. in the 800 block of U.S.54/63. They said that a vehicle being driven by 24 year old Tyler Shirk was traveling southbound in the left lane when he fell asleep for a moment and ran off the left side of the roadway. He awoke and tried to get back onto the roadway but he over corrected and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then started to skid across the highway and went onto the exit ramp lane for Missouri 94. The vehicle then flipped over and ran off the roadway ending up on the grass on the south side of the exit ramp.

Both Tyler and his passenger,24 year old Patricia Shirk were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. Both were fortunately wearing seat belts and their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

State Representative Bill Lant Injured in Crash

On Monday, July 25 Missouri State Representative Bill Lant was injured in a single vehicle accident on Interstate 49.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol the accident happened at 9.15 a.m. near Goodman as 69 year old Lant was traveling northbound in a Chevrolet Impala on his way to Jefferson City. There was a rain storm and his vehicle hydroplaned and went off the roadway and hit the support for a road sign.

He was taken to Freeman Hospital West in nearby Joplin with several broken bones and was admitted to the intensive care unit where his wife, Jane, said she was optimistic about his condition and he was expected to survive and make a full recovery.

Lant represents Newton and McDonald counties and is a Republican from Pineville in southwest Missouri. He has been in office since 2011.

Lant used to own Lant’s Feed & Farm Supply, and worked as a salesman and account executive for ABF Freight Systems before his election to the House. He is unopposed as he seeks his fourth term.

Passenger Killed in Early Morning Fatal Car Wreck

Early on Friday morning, May 20 a passenger was killed in a fatal car wreck in Jefferson City.

According to Jefferson City Police, the accident happened at 1.16 a.m. on Highway 11E at the Marathon market in Talbott. A 2003 Toyota Camry had apparently left the westbound lanes of the highway and struck a support post connected to the gas pump canopy at the market (1274 Highway 11E), which was closed at the time.

Four to five hours later, county deputies located 21 year old Zachary Nathaniel Davis, of Morristown, walking on Whippoorwill Drive in Talbott. He was the driver of the car and was taken to the hospital to be checked before being charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death or injury,

The investigation is continuing.
