Single Engine Plane Crash Injures Two

On Sunday, June 19 there was a single engine plane crash in southern Cole County.

According to Cole County Sheriff’s Department there were two men in the plane. The pilot was John Abbott who was in his early 30s and the passenger was Mark Blume, aged in his 60s.

The plane took off Jefferson City on a local flight but it is not known where it was heading to and it came down in a wooded area in the 1600 block of North Teal Bottom Road, near Henley, at about 2:30 p.m. A witness saw the plane flying low and then heard it crash.

Abbott was listed in fair condition Tuesday morning, June 21 at University Hospital, and Blume had been treated and released.

Two Federal Aviation Administration investigators arrived at the scene the day after the crash to investigate the cause of the accident although it will be at least a few weeks before the investigation concludes.
